New police footage has revealed the hidden details behind the arrest of Emily Weinman, a 20-year-old mother who was punched in the head during her arrest on a New Jersey beach.
According to the young mother, Emily Weinman, the altercation started when she made a snide comment towards the officers while they were patrolling the beach. The police were breath-testing all the beach-goers to test for underage drinking when Weinman said to them, “Don’t you have anything better to do?”
The police footage shows the officers asking Weinman if she has been drinking on the beach. They then ask her for her name, which she refuses to give, creating the first instance of obstruction. In the video, the officers then accuse Weinman of ‘creating a scene’ and ‘disrespecting’ them. Weinman says none of these allegations are true.
Weinman walks away from the officers at this point after refusing to give her last name. One officer can then be heard saying, “Okay that’s it. I’m done with you.” He asks his partner if he has any handcuffs with him. Hearing this, Weinman turns around and yells, “Don’t talk to me,” to which the officer replies, “You’re about to get dropped.”
The camera is covered for the next part of the video. Video footage from another beach-goer shows that, in this time, the officer hits Weinman on the head twice. After the lens is uncovered, Weinman can be seen lying on the ground with the officer’s hands on her head. It seems as if he is forcing her head down into the sand.
The footage ends with Weinman being led away by the police officer. She is yelling things like “dirtball” and “piece of trash” at them. Onlookers also said that Weinman spat at the officers, though she herself said that she was only spitting sand out of her mouth.

Weinman was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction, aggravated assault on an officer, aggravated assault by spitting bodily fluids at an officer, disorderly conduct, and minor in possession of alcohol.
In a since-deleted Facebook post, Weinman explained her side of the story. She claimed that the officers used excessive force when arresting her and did not believe she aggravated them to that extent.
She admitted that she was in possession of alcohol while underage, saying, “I had alcohol, it’s Memorial Day weekend and 90 percent of people are underage drinking on the beach, without a doubt.”
She explained that after the breathalyser test came back negative, the cops were still pursuing her. It was at this point that she asked them if they had anything better to do. She wrote, “I asked them don’t they have something better to do as cops than to stop people for underage drinking on the beach, saying to that there’s so much more serious stuff going on… the cop said, ‘I was gonna let you go but now I’ll write you up’ and he asked my name.”
She said that she refused to give it since she had not done anything wrong. The cop then told her that if she did not comply, he would arrest her. She asked him to let it go since she had her 18-month-old daughter with her but still refused to give him her information.
She said, “He told me he’s arresting me and started coming towards me to put handcuffs on me. I cautiously was backing up from him (facing him) and yelled for my daughters father. (he was playing in the ocean with our daughter at the time).. I tripped and fell and the cop tackled me to the ground and smashed my head into the sand. At that point I blacked out and fought any way possible trying to get up and push him off me. Thats when he head locked me me by his arm around my neck, punched on me in my head and then he head locked me again but this time choking me, I was gasping for [air].”
She also added that she blamed this whole situation on the law enforcement officers and how they blew a small situation out of proportion. She wrote, “But this whole situation was handled wrongly and blew out of proportion all because these pigs didn’t do their jobs the way they were TRAINED to do so. maybe that’s just how they train them nowadays, who knows with the world we live in today.”
At the end of her note, Weinman added that the cops did not take the beer that they initially had a problem with, nor did they take the information of any of her friends. According to her, “They obviously were there to stir the pot. I know I’m not the first this happened too and definitely am sure that I will not be the last!!”
The Mayor of Wildwood spoke to Philly about his thoughts on the incident. He said. “We don’t like to see anyone get hit, period. But then again, when you have someone who’s aggressively attacking you or spitting at you … I wasn’t there. I don’t know.”
Viewers of the police footage are completely divided on the issue.
I don’t give a damn what bodycam shows #EmilyWeinman did, punching a pinned down woman is vengeance, not justice. I’m not here for men telling me the woman provoked the man to hurt her – that bullshit is spun to every abused woman and man with a raised fist. She didn’t deserve it

You know everyone is fucked when cops gang up on a 100lb white girl for hanging on the beach with her kids. They could’ve simply taken her booze and given her citation for drinking on the beach. #policebrutality #excessiveforce #emilyweinman #wtfisthis

Have I been watching different footage to everyone else?! How are people justifying what the Police Officer did? She passed a breathalyser test and he just seems pissed off! Then lays down some ground and pound?! It’s fucking madness!! #EmilyWeinman

So, @64PhilliesFan thinks his client, Emily Weinman, is a victim. He told the media that it’s “appalling” Twitter thinks she got what she deserved. Well, she didn’t. They went light on her, IMO. An unwed mother and, above all, IMO, white trash that escalated the situation.

Dont know why cop hit Emily Weinman, but it seems to me that she is a trash, and provoked, who talks back to police after SHE breaks law and is under age drinking. How can you be so arrogant when you’re breaking the law?? Cant wait for whole story.

Don’t feel too bad for the idiot – how about you don’t drink on the beach and quit acting like a spoiled ignoramus and do what the police ask…then you won’t get arrested. Stupid!! #backingthepolice #itsatoughjob #EmilyWeinman

This is not Weinman’s first altercation with the law. She was arrested in 2016 for burglary, simple assault, criminal mischief, criminal trespassing and recklessly endangering another person.
